How resilient to stress are you? 

I used to think that I was cool as a cucumber, and that stress was a non-issue for me. I powered through all stressful situations by holding my breath and “pushing through” to the other side, seemingly unscathed. Then I would go about my day as though nothing had happened. 

What I didn’t realize at the time, was that there was a major price to pay for not allowing my nervous system proper time to process and rebalance after I dealt with stress. 

One day, all the unprocessed stress energies that I had been suppressing my whole life finally said “you can’t ignore me anymore!”  My nervous system short-circuited. 

I went from being capable of handling pretty major stressors, to barely being able to deal with the stress of driving a car or walking into a grocery store. My stress-bucket had overflowed. Most environmental stimulation sent me into fight/flight mode, and each night I ended up in a puddle of tears because of the overwhelm of it all. 

We are all faced with stress on a daily basis. Sometimes it’s minor; other times it can be major and traumatic. But our mind and nervous system’s capacity to recalibrate after these stressors is what determines how strong their impact will be on our physical, mental, emotional and energetic health. 

I had to learn the hard way that pushing through stress without useful recovery tools is a recipe for disaster. But we don’t always need to learn the hard way. That’s why I created the Nurture Your Nervous System course for the nOMad Collective.
