📝 PART 1 — 10 Questions to Ask Before You Book A Retreat
From over 20 years of experience as both a seeker and retreat leader, these questions address the exact doubts I see that most seekers have—but often don’t know how to articulate.
Find a quiet place to sit and answer these questions. Use them to find clarity, confidence, and resonance.
1. What is my intention for this retreat?
- Do you want rest?
- Transformation?
- Community?
- Adventure?
- Healing?
Your intention is your compass.
2. What kind of guidance do I need right now?
- Do you want a gentle, nurturing environment?
- Or a more structured, growth-oriented experience where I am being educated or it is purpose driven?
3. Who is the facilitator, and do I trust them?
Look for their background, values, trauma-informed approach, and how they speak about community care.
If you don’t know them, sign up for a free offering online or in your local community or make a small investment in an event or program to see if their work and voice resonates with you.
4. Who is the retreat designed for?
- Does the retreat describe the kind of people you want to be around?
- Will you feel safe, welcomed, and included?
5. What is the daily rhythm?
- Is it spacious or structured?
- Lots of inner work or lots of rest?
- Are there daily excursion and days full of activities?
Your nervous system already knows what it wants.
6. What level of experience is expected?
Yoga, meditation, movement, breathwork— will you feel supported as you are, without pressure?
7. How intimate is the group?
Are you seeking a small circle or something larger and more social?
8. What’s included (and what’s not)? What other policies do you need to know about?
- Meals, lodging, airport transfers, gratuities, excursions..
- Is there a cancellation policy to protect all parties involved?
- Are their other policies like no cell phones, vegan only, etc
Clarity makes the investment feel grounded.
9. What is the energy of the place itself?
Do the land, the culture, the environment speak to your heart? Your body often knows before your mind does.
10. Will I feel supported after the retreat ends?
Will there be community, practices, or follow-up support to help you integrate your experience at home?
